Dunno, depends on the wood; my all mahogany Schecter Ultra VI is rather lighter than both of the alder Hellcat VIs I've owned. They're pretty much identical instruments, in most respects, but the Ultra has a larger body and set neck, the Hellcat is bolt-on and a little smaller... but the Hellcats weigh more.

Much like pawn shop range before these look cheap, plasticky, and with bizarre aesthetic design choices. The strat comes out best there really. That jazz is utterly vile looking, like a cheap knockoff you'd buy from rondo or something. Why can't fender get things right? I'm all for different permutations on classic designs but they virtually always seen to miss something vital that would complete the design, like binding on that jazzy, or a duo shaped bridge on the mustang special. Fender is making people pay a lot for 'half arsed'

And that is exactly it. If they poured over fewer designs and put effort into them they could make some amazing new stuff, but they really seem to not put any genuine thought into what they're doing. I don't wish for the time again as about 10 years ago where there was pretty much only the MIM/USA/CIJ standards and classic series, but the Fender market has gone mental. It's as if they are commissioning every design idea they have after finding that guitar builder. Even loads of the shots on the site look shooped/made on kisake (sp).

I think the Mustang and the basses are fine. The rest..... not my cup of tea. Not even my cup of coffee. Not really any kind of cup I'd drink, really.

Who knows, maybe Fender's realized that their best shot at selling in the future is to batch up short run guitars that everyone hates at release only to appreciate later.

Same here. I find them interesting and like what Fender has done. The JM is my favorite from this crop. I've longed for a JM with a maple fretboard and block markers, but never cared for black guitars. If they offer the JM in other colors one may find it's way into my stable.

They're doing it in "Crimson Red Transparent" but that one has a rosewood fingerboard with dots.

That's unfortunate. :(
