ZAKK WYLDE WAH FOR 50 QUID? YAY OR NAY?

Post by Dave »

Just a quick check - it' looks pretty cool and has the Fasal Inductor. 50 quid second hand (no box or owt). Worth it? Thoughts and experience?

There's a Clyde McCoy floating around on MusicRadar for £60 - buy that instead. Crazily good wah for the money.

I've heard good things about the Zakk Wylde, but buy this instead:

Boss PW-10 v-wah. You can change the Q and other stuff on it to sort of tune it towards different guitars and amps and it sounds great and has a handful of different drive sounds and other spacey sounds and such. Dunno why no-one ever seems to like these.

Isn't the Zack Wylde wah basically a crybaby classic but you can adjust the torque? I'd go for it personally. Although a Clyde Mccoy would also be cool.

I'm personally not too keen on the boss wah as it doesn't have much throw.

Dooglas, after years mocking the wah, I now can't do without one. It's not often I use it for wacka-wacka-wow freakouts (OK, actually it is), but to tweak the tone and provide emphasis on the fly, I love it to bits.

£50 is a fair price for any decent quality Wah, which this one obviously is. Do it, shove socks down your pants to enhance the bulge in your skinnys and FUCKING ROCK OUT, you wont.

Like most things, there's the tedious and unimaginative way to use em (OH HAI IM SLASH NO WAIT IM NOT) and there's novel ways.

Doog it's genetic. Listen to someone who earnt their blues on lifes hard and winding road. When you get to 36 you start thinking les Paul's are the bestest and that a wah would be übertits for bedroom 'wailing'. Coupled with my Lester I'm sure she'll sing some sweet sweet big mama woman tone, with a nice brown bottom, fullsome mids and a very revealing top. I'll work on my finger style, pumping her rhythmically and make her scream the voodoo love-electric. At the crossroads. With my mojo in my hand....and an all pervading sense of ennui.

Anyway: MOTHERFUCKING UPDATE.
Dear dear Benecol gave me a heads up on a great deal for a Vox 848 so I've gone for it, will have next week. I'm also possibly getting the Wylde as well but it's complicated at the moment...

Glad I got that out of the road along with Dostoevsky when I was 15.

A fan of florid language then!

God I hope folks know I'm taking the piss. Apart from the les Paul comment: I'm kind of in love right now.
