Removing cigarette smell from your guitar

Post by Awstin »

This one neck that I have really smells strong of cigarettes. I cleaned the hell out of it but it is still there. I have looked up on how to remove it but haven't really found anything except "air dry it" Then I stumbled on some link about removing that smell from books and it gave me the idea to use unused dryer sheets. Apparently they are extremely strong and absorb the smell. Sooooooooo.... I wrapped the whole fucking neck in them. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

You could also try cleaning with naptha, or hang it in a hot garage for a few days.

I would try sealing it up in a white garbage bag with some baking soda for a couple of days.

Smoke a nice pipe or cigar next to it for several hours a day. Eventually, you won't be able to smell the cigarettes.

My Firebird reeked like bongwater for a couple of weeks. Clean it with a damp cloth, then just let it air for a couple of weeks.

Wow. It actually somewhat worked. I still smell a very small hint of it. I have it outside in the humid air in the shade right now airing out. Hopefully it goes away.

Hard not to smell it when you pick the neck up to play and that's all you smell...

I had a vintage musicmaster body like this too but MUCH worse. If you came within 3 ft of it you smelt it. It would linger on your cloths, and any time you moved it around it would just swoosh the smell to your nostrils. I thought it was cool though. The smell didn't bother me that much being that it was vintage and a players guitar. Gave it character. But as for this neck... I don't want that for what I'm using it for.
