I picked up one of these a few years ago for £250, it's one of my favorites to play. Mine seems to have an ebony fretboard though, I'm pretty sure it's not rosewood.
Good score! I found a half dozen cheap ass SGs on kijiji about a week after dishing out $1300+ in cash for my SG Standard 2013. Feel like an idiot. At least it's registered to me and has a ltd lifetime warranty... Still bugs me that I could have saved a lot of money.
My best scores are used from Guitar Center. I got my AVRI Jaguar and Fender Coronado II for amazing prices.
GC's used prices are usually very reasonable I find. These were only like $600 new anyway. Maybe if it were in like-new condition they would've asked more, but most people don't walk into GC looking for a beat up guitar, so they probably priced it to sell. Personally I love it, it's got character that you can't even pay extra for. Nice find!

I bet you anything it's not ebony, this is a low-end Faded Gibbo. If not just very dark rosewood (which pops up frequently, albeit NEVER on cheaper Gibsons) it's probably dyed obeche which was used on faded/studios for awhile, or if it has no grain/pores it could be richlite, a composite material. Both of these fingerboards hit the cheap Gibbos during Rosewood-gate.
Richlite
Obeche

I didn't think they used richlite back in 2003. The first runs had crescent moon inlays and an ebony board, mine is dots and ebony.
Oh, right on, I didn't know it was an earlier one. They did come with ebony boards until the mid-'00s apparently, they cost more back then too. Then they switched to that super dry looking rosewood, more recently they've come with other boards (like when they knocked the price down to $600).

I've always really liked the SG specials and fadeds. Really solid and well priced American guitars. I always toy with selling my SG.... I use it the least of any of my guitars.... but it's such a wang swingin' rock n' roll axe. I dunno. I probably won't get rid of it.
