New Boss Pedals and Roland Amp

Boss stuff is cool, they normally achieve exactly what they set out to. However some of the new models have been a bit iffy.

I definitely think there is a market for reissue models, but how likely that is we'll just have to wait and see. With the gear market you can never know for sure.

But yeah, I've never been wowed by Boss dirt pedals or fuzzes really, except when they copy stuff (the FZ-2) or build something so wrong it's kinda cool (the MZ-2 Digital Metalizer). All the RV and DD pedals I've owned have been excellent, however.

Yeah, I use the mustard to cover over a Boss dirt pedal so I might imagine it was a vintage MXR Distortion + instead. ;p

But how many informed ppl nowadays would buy a new Boss delay or reverb pedal over ones offered by makes such as Line 6, TC Electronic, or EHX? I know I wouldn't.


With regard to every category type of pedal, I can't think of a single one where I'd choose a new Boss over a model made by another brand. And imo one can usually get something that sounds better for cheaper.


Boss dirt pedals are meh. (Although the SD1 is okay, and the only Boss pedal worth its cost new imo; but one could get a TS knockoff cheap too)

Their modulation pedals are all digital. Ugh.

COSM sucks.

Their pitchshift/octave pedals track worse than cheaper equivalents.

They don't do an analogue delay and didn't do an analogue emulation until the recent DD7 (occuring well behind the competition).

The only good thing about Boss pedals is that they are rugged and have buffered bypass.

Boss are living on a reputation from 10+ years ago.

20 years ago, there wasn't much else other than Boss pedals that was readily available, decent and reliable. Things are a lot different now though. Their market share must be tiny now in comparison.

The ODB is brilliant for proper heavy riffage.

That's about the only Boss pedal I can think of that would be my first choice for that certain sound.

I find that the competition beats Boss on price and sound. I don't think Boss pedals are very good value for money. Their dirt pedals are generally poor comparatively. Many makes are up there now on the build quality. There are so many makes and pedals available nowadays, Boss just doesn't cut the mustard in my book.
