As I posted in the Japan thread, I just got back from Japan and I brought a guitar back with me. A nice new black Jazzmaster with a mint guard. Here are pics. Only thing different with it now is I put white witch hats on it. I will take new pictures later. Still jet-lagged.

Black is such a classy color on a Jazzmaster. You don't see that color much because Sunburst is the standard color for a Jazzmaster.
That is cool.

I am surprised you didn't buy the blue Competition stripe Jazzmaster. That guitar looks amazing.

Pssh. Stripes don't belong on jags/jazzys.
You made the right choice. Congrats. ...want one so bad now, it'll probably be my next major guitar purchase.

There were so many sweet guitars it was really hard to choose. I went with black because before I went over I had it in my head that I was hoping for a black Jaguar with a mint guard. I found one, but it had a good size dent in it, so I went with the Jazzy because it was the same color but in great condition.

Question.....does it work out to be much cheaper to buy that Jazzmaster in Japan and fly back with it than it would to just buy one in the states? Did customs hit you at all?
Or is it just wanting to bring back a souvenir?

Customs didn't hit me. I think it was slightly cheaper than ordering it online. No shipping cost and it was under $900.

SEXY. Not enough black/mint jazzys out there.
Very Radiohead (except with mint)
Play Airbag on it. Feel BADASS.

That looks really nice, and I generally don't like tuxedo giutars.

Now it is almost a twin of my OLY Jazzy. (Except my OLY has a mastery, avri tremolo, and SD antiquity pickups.) I am going to try keeping it with stock pickups for a bit and see how I like it. I don't want to get hung up on the old "Japanese electronics are trash." I know they are wound like strat pickups, but I want to give them a go before just tossing them. I might have a buddy who makes custom pickups just rebuild them for me Jazzy style if I don't end up liking them. He has done that for me before.
Kids are going to bed soon and then I will get some fresh pictures up.

The knobs match the pickup covers perfectly. Good Call.

Thanks! I thought it would be a good match and add a little more class than the strat stock ones.

I am trading for a Jazzmaster and the first order of business will be to replace the strat knobs.

They are ok, but there are so many other cool knob styles to choose from. Makes those poor strat knobs seem so plain.

Bronco Knobs are my favorite but I am not sure they will match the color scheme. Black Jaguar or Witch hats might work.
