Just one of those things, why did CBS make the Strat headstock larger? What would be the point in making them exactly the same? They already exist like that. I don't think they're making them as a second chance for those of us not around when they first came out, you can still get those if you really want one.
To have a NEW one that isn't vintage and really expensive. They were fine as they were. Same thing with the AVRI Jaguars and such.BobArsecake wrote:Just one of those things, why did CBS make the Strat headstock larger? What would be the point in making them exactly the same? Congratulations! Your Punkacc9 evolved into Awstin.
It would be dull if they just kept releasing the same guitars over and over again with no variation.
"Oh look. A stratocaster."
But even then, a Strat has changed every now and then over the years. The Starcasters and Coronados were hollow-body guitars with a Fender feel to them. These guitars are hollow-body guitars with a Fender feel to them OH NO WAIT THEY GOT IT WRONG LOOK AT THE BRIDGE LOL FUCKYOUFENDER

Times change, grandad, move on. The AV Jags were still hella expensive, if you're set on spending that much on a guitar then it's likely you'll fork out for an original. The new ones are a nice change.Punkacc9 wrote:To have a NEW one that isn't vintage and really expensive. They were fine as they were. I think you're right here. The bodies look the same to me, just the extra space between the edge of the pickups and guitar make it seem wider.Mike wrote:I think the original pickups being larger is what makes the new ones look a little chubby
Also I just read the coronado is now a semi hollow, with a center block. That's a shame.

Meh - matters less to me. If it's less microphonic/boomy when plugged in I'm all for progress.DanHeron wrote:I think you're right here. 'Zactly. Fully hollow electrics have a very narrow market, and verge on specialised instruments to me. They feel very delicate.Mike wrote:Meh - matters less to me. They can be relied upon never to let an expensive reissue with unnecessary appointments slip past their masturbation filter, nor an inexpensive instrument inspired by a well-loved classic through their complaint filter.
They provide a vital service to the insular, conservative guitar world.

I like them both, just the reissue starcaster looks (or IS, if I'm not blind) smaller than the old version; I think TOM is a cool thing, after all Fender could never do a same version: they've adapted them both to new building-conception ( different body contour, different radius, scale, hardware etc...) and to economize and simplify the fabrication processes (I think that a TOM is more simple to set up than that old-style hardtail bridge). I just don't know how different the new coronado plays confronted with the old version because the new one has a center-block. According to you, is a Starcaster better than an Epiphone es-339 and a coronado better than an Epiphone casino? Could it be possible a comparison? (I am lately interested in these epiphone semi-hollw body guitars but I like these new fender guitar too).
Hmm, get a vibramate b5 kit and use a b5-F logo unit, problem solved. That said, strap button placement, wtf???
I will likely buy one for white and giggles, the girlfriend will get angry with another guitar, viscous cycle carries on, lol
