Anybody Know what kind of wood this is?

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

Anybody Know what kind of wood this is?

Post by GHOSTLYxSTRAT »

My mate and I have been working on his bass it's an Indonesian 2008 squier affinity jazz bass. We were getting it ready for paint etc... we noticed how hard and heavy this bass is compared to other squier affinity jazz basses, and appears to have flaming in the grain? so is it maple??? or do you guys know?? Thanks :)

Hard and heavy, would be a description for northern ash or maple. Maple tops are very common but you don't see a whole guitar body made of it that often. The grain don't look like ash.

The golden color looks more like alder to me. Hard to say with just one photo.

Could be basswood - the colour and the lack of fine grains, but large grains here and there.

100% sure it's not basswood I've sanded back many basswood guitars such as Ibanez, A squier VM Mustang and jazzmaster even a bullet strat all were quite light soft wood and had almost no grain. :?
