So I've been odd job hired to fix a few passive monitors, and rearrange the sound at one of my favourite venues, problem with the monitors is probably just some loose wiring, just need a re-soldier, but I was contemplating rewiring them entirely just incase there is a break in the wires..
in my trusty kit I've got some 18g, some 16g wire and a soldiering gun, gfs soldier and a multimeter.
I suspect the 16g will be my best choice.
but i'm wondering yr thoughts on this as well?
they also have a power amp for the active monitors but it appears to be quiet buggered.
i'll take a peak at it but I suspect it may be beyond my technical abilities.
once these issues are resolved we plan to move the p.a. speakers about a foot in front of the stage (they are hanging) and angle them in towards the middle of the room ( its quite a small space )
and I would like to hang at least one of the monitors as well, but obv. facing towards the stage, sort of centered on where. front man would stand. and have the other monitors sit on stage on each side.
i'll do up a sketch of how the current setup is vs the new plan.
I'd dig yr input, as its been a couple years since i did any real sound tech work that wasn't just manning a mixing board.
I also want to see what they have for a mixer and such as i don't recall.
maybe my Mackie 24*8 will end up w/ a new home for a bit.

Do whatever you have to do to ensure the next fuckup trying to crank the monitors will not fuck them up. Once that is done, take a fucking sm58 and ring them out so that the next fuckup on stage that points his sm58 into the grille of the monitors will not get feedback under any circumstance. Your graphic EQ will look like a pile of fuck, but hey - that's life!
once that is done - rip all fucking knobs/faders/adjustable controls off of everything to keep fucking prick asshole fucks from ever changing the shit you just worked out. you can also enclose everthing in some lockable case and throw the key in the garbage. don't ever touch that shit again until you talk the owners into installing a brand new system with ACTIVE monitors and paying you handsomely (ie: get fucking rich).
if you don't feel like doing this, get someone to put a few bullets through your brain.
