Relatively cheap/basic looper pedals

I know about the TC Electronic Ditto; are there any others worth considering?

I hear a lot of talk about loopers. I don't do much with mine other than writing some. I really, really like my ditto tho. That said, it's my first looper and I've never used and others. I really can't imagine anything more simple and fun than the Ditto tho.

For a similar price as the Ditto (or even cheaper according to a quick peruse) you could pick up an Akai Headrush on eBay which would also give you tap-tempo delay and 4-output tape echo simulation with head gap (for that rhythmic Shadows type echo) and high-frequency dampening (for analog type muffling) controls. I love mine to pieces.
Bear in mind this is like a 16 year old delay-circuit-based looper design so it doesn't have nearly the loop time of the Ditto (about 25 seconds max in low-quality mode, 11 in high quality), but whenever I see "five minutes of loop time!" I think "10 minute songs with 5 minute intros". You can still overdub those 25 secs to infinity so it doesn't really matter in most situations.

I've always loved the looper in the line 6 DL4. For me it's the easiest to use (no double tapping of switched which REALLY bugs me) half speed and reverse looping

With the same premise as Paul's suggestion, for the price of a ditto you could pick up a Boss RC-2 on eBay. I have one and I think it's great, loads of features, but basically as simple or complicated as you want it to be. I'd certainly look out for one in your position.

^ah shit, that's a million times better than a headrush. I was even looking out for one at one point, can't believe I forgot.

That seems to be the other top dog I've seen used. Knowing dick about loopers and not minding the dub tap I went ditto, plus the bitch is tiny. I'd like to try an RC2 sometime.

You can also expand the RC-2 (or RC-3) a bit by making a cheap enclosure with a few jacks and switches, or use the Boss switch pedals.

See page 28:

http://media.rolandus.com/manuals/RC-2_OM.pdf

This gives you functionality similar to the RC-20 (or RC-30) dual pedals on the cheapz.
