Fender Jazz-King

Post by robert(original) »

I remember seeing one in a music shop in dayton ohio, i don't really remember playing thru it, but just that it was the biggest amp that i had seen at that time.
i like the idea of a 15" speaker in a guitar amp. has anyone ever tried one of these out? or is there another amp/manufacturer that makes a 15" speaker guitar amp.
or is it just crap altogether and i should stick with 10" and 12" speakered combo style stuff?

They can be great. The current Fender Excelsior has a 15" speaker and the Peavey Delta Blues uses one, too. It's basically a Classic 30 but with a bigger speaker.

There might be others.

i played thru an excelsior and didn't even relize there was a 15" in there. it was a damn nice amp tho... i loved the styling of it, and it had great response....
i guess i was jut concerned that it may be too middy or "boomy" sounding, and the clarity would be lost with the bigger speaker, but perhaps not.

Marshally really, just with a little more defined bass. I never crank it really so I don't know what it sounds like near the limit.

I speak about this amp way too much here, but If you can find one, the silverface Vibrosonic Reverb is a Twin with a 15" and beefier output transformer. It's my favorite amp in the world. Mine's a '73 and cost $600 in 2004.

The same amp chassis is in this, the Twin, Super Six, Quad, and Dual Showman.
