Wonderful! I used to listen to those first two solo albums constantly in my late teens. Never stopped listening to The Replacements, but I really should dig the later stuff out.

They're from your neck of the woods, aren't they WTR? Ever see them or Husker Du back in the day?

Thanks! My friend Jim Harms bought this guitar around 2001. Jim sold the guitar a to a customer who sold it back to him in 2010.Jim it sold to another customer the same day. Yesterday,when I went to the store to pickup my Teisco guitar I saw 2 Rickenbacker 620's on the wall,a Mapleglo 6 string and a Fireglo 12 string. I asked Jim about them and he told me a customer had just put them both on consignment. I said the Fireglo looks like Paul Westerberg's 620/12 and Jim said "It is".I went home and told my wife about it.she is a big Replacements fan because she grew up here.She said "Oh,you should to get that".

I never got to see the Replacements "back in the day" because I didn't move to Minneapolis till '92 but I knew all about The Replacements from my friend Mike. He was like president of their fan club and used to follow them on tour.,I think he was waiting for the chance to join the band(He once auditioned to play guitar for Iggy Pop) He'd flip out if I told him about this guitar.

I love The Replacements, but not as much as this story

A perfect counterpoint to the vacuity of most 80's music, as illustrated by an anecdote from a now defunct magazine called Musician. On the cover of the Feb. 1989 issue, they declared The Replacements as "The Last, Best Band of the 80's." This prompted Jon Bon Jovi write to the magazine, "If The Replacements are the last, best band of the 80's, how come I've never heard of them?"

Having just joined this forum... I'm a little late to the party, but I have to say that I'm super jealous of that Rickenbacker. The Replacements are one of my favorite bands. That guitar is a piece of history, so congrats to you.

Thanks for the posts! I asked Jim to write a letter for me so that I would have some kind of provenance.

I talked to Jim today and asked him to fill in the blanks about how the guitar got from Paul to him. He told me the guy he bought it from is a collector and a Replacements fan who bought the guitar from another local store. I think that guy bought the guitar around 1999 and sold it to Jim around 2001.Jim sold it to a regular customer soon after he bought it and it was traded back in in 2010 and sold the same day. I was lucky to be in the store last week when it came back for the 3rd time. I said to Jim "I should get it,I mean how chances am I going to get to buy it?" Jim said "I don't know but I have had 3." lol. The price I paid for the guitar was $1799. That might be a little above the market price but that is because the the guitar was on consignment. Still,I traded some gear in so it only cost me $400 out of pocket to get this guitar.

Jim is a great guy. He used to have big collection of vintage gear. When he opened the Golden Valley store he had a huge stash of BF Fender amps for sale Below is an early Fender Esquire that is on display at the store, Fender has verified the guitar as one Leo used as a test bed for the prototype Strat tremolos(notice the 3 saddle tremolo).

Actually,Paul has been a customer of Jims store.He bought Jim's vintage Epiphone Casino. Also Jim told me that Paul once brought him a Les Paul Junior and asked if he wanted to buy it. Jim said the guitar was just a hulk when he brought it in, a body with no pickup,hard ware,pickguard or electronics.There was never any explanation about how the guitar got like this. Still it was a vintage Junior from around 1956 so Jim said it might be a better idea to restore it it with vintage parts and then sell it on consignment. Paul agreed and and Jim said he was able to get it put back together with all the appropriate parts but after he did Paul decided he didn't want to sell the guitar after all. I think he still has it now. It might be the guitar in this video.

Sonds cool, but the Rickenbacker on I Will Dare is likely Peter Buck's, seeing as he's playing it and is a famous Rickenbacker user.

I remember seeing that 3-saddle trem Tele on MyMusicStore's older website a few years ago!
