What's the least you've ever paid for a guitar?

Post by Freddy V-C »

This thread was inevitable. Not including gifts (or any other free guitars, like ones you found in a skip or something), what's the least you've ever paid for a guitar?

For me it's my Encore Strat. £30 in Cash Converters and worth every penny.

Closely followed by my BC Rich Warlock. £50 off Fran a couple of years back. I recently peeled off all the stickers, cleaned it up and got it set up properly. Since then it's become my main gigging guitar.

I like how in both of these pictures I'm not really playing anything. I do know chords, I promise.

Oh baby, you'll be okay I promise.

I forgot about the two cheapo acoustics I've had for sub-£20 (I can't remember how cheap exactly). I sold one of them to my sister's friend for £5 or something silly, and the other one ended up on the tip.

I traded a case of beer for a Squier M-80 over the summer.

I think I got an SG-shaped Top 20 for £50-60. Utterly abominable, unsalvageable piece of shit.

I did get a good guitar for £75, but it was a bro deal on here - the Hondo Pro II Lead II copy which has done the rounds on here. I still like/play it lots. The one on the right:

Can't recall why I sold that Hondo, was a nice guitar. I think I just didn't like small guitars... aside from the machineheads, it's top notch !!

I bought a Yamaha SG200 for £50 off the bass player in my first band. Still got it but it's in storage at the moment. Must dig it out soon.

I have to say, nothing.
Vince (Vincel) who used to post here asked me if I wanted a Telecaster to 'fix up' for free, a USA Telecaster
What a guy! I offered him cash but he wasn't bothered. Anyway, its beat up but I like guitars that way and it plays/sounds great.

Some others I consider great scores are the endless Crack Converters £50 quid Squier Strats, a £40 Vester RG 550 copy, £60 Vantage Ghost (MIJ Gibson 'The Paul' copy), £80 Acrylic BC Rich Mockingbird (albeit with a snapped off headstock). Many more I'm sure.

Looking Cool! I like seeing indie types using evil pointy SLIPKNOT MOTHER FUCKER guitars... ever since seeing the dude from Pavement rocking his BC Rich back in the day.

$20 on a Japanese Les Paul copy. Great build quality and sounded sweet. Played it for a while and then sold it for $100

I remember playing a 'Festival' down at the Waterfront in Nottingham, something like 90 bands on in two days between three pubs. It was a proper Johnny Pretentious convention, every band were about out-gearing each other. Then I stumbled over this band, young lads, no dress sense, and the guitarist had a budget BC Rich Warlock. He/they were fucking awesome! Best band I saw all weekend, decent songs with good hooklines, real attitude (not contrived nonsense), no posing about just proper rock n roll 8)

10 bucks for a decent maderia guitar, which was a sub company of guild in the 80's the body was plywood, the neck was all maple, the tuners were crap, but the finish, fit, and hardware(bridge, pots, and pups) were all ace.
i have probly gotten 10 different guitars for free over the years, everything from a weird 80s 5 string squier bass to my 83 tele. and oddball no name strat copies.

I swapped a fishing rod for a Marlin Bass.

I am only now just realizing how funny it is that i traded a Fishing rod, for a bass named after a fish.

(Although to be fair, the rod was intended for coarse fishing, not sea fishing)
