Hello. I've got a Laney bass combo (ss) and I want to sell it, but I'm worried that there's something wrong with it. What's a reasonable price to pay for someone to open it up and have a look at it? Can anyone recommend someone near/in Manchester?
places with practice rooms and recording studios usually have someone knocking about and are cheaper than through usual channels and guitar shops etc. worth a look.
I used to know an amp tech my brother used to use but I suspect he moved to Warrington, so I'll ask when I get home tonight. Otherwise, no, I've no idea. Amp techs seem a much rarer beast than guitar techs.
David Lunt in Stockport is really good. He was cheaper than his main competitor, and did a quick turnaround. I don't know how much he's charge to just look at it. What do you reckon is wrong with it?
Could try calling him. I'm sure he's give you an idea of the cost: 0161 432 9698
Look for just a general music electronics repairman, they're usually way cheaper and do a better job (at least on SS gear).
There is a guy in Glasgow that charges only a tiny bit more than parts, he's so good as well. He basically rebuilt my friend's amp for like £50! I'm sure there'll be someone like that around if you look hard enough!
Dave Lunt does fix solid state stuff, he fixed an old 80s fender combo of mine about 10 years ago and it's still working to this day... I would say he's that cheap tho...
