Some sick came up into my mouth..
I had an Alden Jazzmaster years ago, it was quite nice. These will probably play okay despite the looks

Yup me too. It's pretty cheap but there's still a part of me that would like to check one out first hand first though.....maybe if one pops up second hand somewhere.

A friend of mine has the paisley jag, it needed a good setup and everything but it's great and the pickups are fucking ace (I just installed exactly the same pickup on my Epiphone).

He plays a Hofner, which I believe this guitar is loosely modeled after.

Yeah, they're based on the Hofner Galaxie

And those new Hofner Galaxies are also very nice for the miniscule amount of money they cost.

I have a small amount of nostalgia for the Galaxie since I once had a Hoefner solid-body and only the finish, neck, number and type of pickups, electronics, bridge and tremolo mechanism were different.

The reason the Alden is finished in Paisley is that the Galaxies came in an interesting range of finishes, some of which could only be described as floral wallpaper.
