A friend of mine is trying to move a pretty rare bird, a Hagstrom H8 (an 8 string bass, in a 12 string config.) that is identical to this one, save for a crack in the neck binding and a non-original knob.

He's trying to find out what a reasonable price for something like this would be.

Sofar, all the info I could dig up is that there is one on ebay that has been extensively modified with a gross pickguard and active electronics, selling for $1,500 but I doubt that's anywhere close to reasonable, that Noel Redding from The Jimmy Hendrix Experience used to play one and that less than 3000 of these things were made between 1967 and 1969.

Can anybody tell me more about this model and perhaps give me some idea as to what one might be worth, in the above mentioned condition?

Hendrix played the bassline on "All Along the Watchtower" on it after Redding got pissed at him control-freaking and fucked off down the pub.

Given Burdon was Hendrix's manager, maybe it was the same bass used by both.

You're thinking of Chas Chandler.
