Yeah, a Squier Jaguar made in Mexico would be worth thousands because of rarity, not worth it as an instrument.dots wrote:squier makes just as many shitty guitar models as they used to, but now they also make some quality instruments that rival (and sometimes beat) the lower tiers of fender products. i hope no one actually believes the squier strat included in those $250 strat packs anymore than they believe there's a real difference between the fender and squier jags made in the same mexican factories. my son has the CV duo i got a few years back, and it's a great guitar.
Another (paranoid) question: Squier or Fender?

Or buy a Squier that you like and stop making questions. If you like your Duo-Sonic Squier go for the Squier Mustang.
If your not gonna try itself instead of asking many people if they want Fender or Squier.
Go with Paranoid just as you named the thread.
I didnt ask people here if i should buy a american made mustang. Because it was already a (hate) thing.
I made my own opinions and i liked it. Go read it.
My only misstake was telling my experience with the guitar.

How is your new Mustang? You never told us much about it.weeping_moon wrote:Ohhh i let you know id buyed a great guitar. And letting anyone know. So it must be THE HOLY GRAIL???
No just a really great playing guitar.
Your Squier Mustang can be a HOLY GRAIL, but dont tell if it has 2 humbuckers, 3 way switch and a hard tail bridge.
Then your accepted in this (b) forum.

"Now"? They have since day 1, I'd put my '83 Squier against any Fender.dots wrote:now they also make some quality instruments that rival (and sometimes beat) the lower tiers of fender

Of course they did sully the name with substandard crap between 1997 and 2005, but otherwise there have usually been decent Squiers.

anyone remember the "protone" series? those were great fucking guitars, hands down. there was a guy that said something to the effect of "so this isn't a real strat...." when he was checking out my squier strat that i got from dgner8. He was under the impression that a "real" strat was a fender made one, when in reality a strat is defined by the style, scale, pickups, body, blah blah blah. it took a few mins for me to get thru his head that squier was a fender company and they made great guitars.

Haha I was just being facetious, I'm not bothered or disagreeing about anything, other than about him thinking that I am bothered! I dunno, man, tonewise, I'd be absolutely happy with the excellent AlNiCo pickups from a nice high end Squier, especially their Strats. Absolutely great pickups. I tend to swap pickups to minimize hum, but tonewise, I think the Fiesta Red Classic Vibe 50s that my friend showed me? Sheesh, what a hottie. Compared to the ceramic crap I've heard in a lot of low-end MIM Fenders? I think you'd have to go into the upper regions of Classic Player and Classic Series before you got anything from Fender that sounded as good, and that's twice the price, and I'd still probably swap out the pickups anyway.Thomas wrote:This^ still don't rate the electronics but for a little time and a fraction of the price of a Fender you can upgrade and have a GREAT guitar.Dave wrote:The Classic Vibe line models I've tried have all felt EASILY as well made as real fenders. The CV Tele i got of George feels like a million dollars. it looks stunning, the build quality and finish is immaculate, the neck feels like a proper fender with rolled edges and lovely gloss tint...really really fucking good.
Only thing a good Squier needs, IMO, is a better bridge.

What is the neck finish in Fender and Squier Mustang? I love the gloss finish of my Classic Vibe DS

Imho, if you can get a japanese Fender 65 RI Mustang (the one without the belly cut), then you are in the Mustang Champions League. Perfectly manufactured, great electronics (all cts/switchcraft), historically correct grey bobbin cloth wire pickups, solid bridge with no gaps between the saddles, historically correct poplar body, and a rock solid trem. And as you asked, like most Japan Fenders they have a glossy neck with a nice tint.
Anything about this guitar is as good as it gets for the prices you mentioned (european prices of course)
If it's an older model (or the 69 model with competition stripes) it may have some downsides to what I said above. Especially pickups and bridge.
I have seen the Squier versions in the shop and for 300 new they are pretty good too. But not nearly as overall good as the 65 RI. That's mostly because of the hardware used, propably. It has a glossy neck too.
try before you buy may just give you the information you need - more so than this thread.
Btw, Squier is a division of Fender. Either way, they win
