Duo Sonic wiring help please.

Post by cooter »

Okay guys, wiring is not my strong suit. I've got a few questions before I get started wiring up this Duo Sonic. I want to wire it like in the old Fender wiring schematic below. My first question is about the 3 way toggle switch. The switch I'm using is just like the ones in the Squier Classic Vibe Duo Sonic's. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of the wiring on a CV Duo Sonic. So, here's my questions.

1.) Are the three lugs on the right side of the CV Duo switch basicly the same as the three in the old schematic? In other words, will the three lugs on the left side of the CV Duo switch be left open?

2.) The old schematic shows the top lug of the switch going to ground on the shielding plate? Since I do have a shielding plate wouldn't the switch is already grounded just by being screwed on the plate?

One last question. It appears that the bridge was grounded to the shielding plate by a short piece of guitar string. I can see the imprint in the body. Is that how it was done on these old Duo Sonics?

Thanks in advance for your help.

2) you still need to ground the pickups. the switch lug going to ground is insulated from the shielding on the guard. you need to jumper it.

Thanks! You'd figure there would be one gut shot of a CV Duo Sonic on the internet somewhere.
That's usually how I wire one up, by looking at a picture of one that's already wired.

Clean clean. Is that shrink tubing? Nice, as always.

Thanks.
Yep. Shrink tubing. I found a few pictures or original Duo wiring and tried to make them look the same.
I did a little better on the second one.
