fuckign basswood!

Post by brainfur »

I used to think basswood was alright but FFS the strap screw keeps wiggling out of my CV jazz bass and i don't even play it that much and i never do any strange dance moves

My CV Jazzbass is my main gigging instrument. And it has a hard live with dance and destroy action. It can happen, that i throw it down or into the drums. The bass has a lot of dongs and the only problem is a loose tuner - i fixed with some glue...

Thumbs up on basswood 8)

OLD PRO TIP: replace the STRAPBUTTON screw with a NECK screw.

Five easy steps:

1.Find Matchstick / cocktail stick or tooth pick.
2.Cut to hole length
3.Coat in PVA & insert
4.Leave to dry
5.Fit Strap button and screw

....oh forgot number 6

What othomas2 said.

I usually just stick them matchsticks in there and just cut them to size. No glue no nothing. But maybe I'm just crazy.

But don't skip step six.

I highly doubt it's strictly basswood-related. Both the strap buttons pulled out of my alder CIJ Jaguar body, but neither ever came loose on my basswood Jag-Stang from the same year/factory.

I thought maybe you were sanding some of that shit. That's the fast track to sadness, right there.
I've never had a strap button screw waggle out, but I would put my basswoods first on the watch list. I still like it for electric guitars though, because it's light and that means I can fling it around better.

you forgot:
7. turn off the lights
8. burn some incense sticks and lights some candles in a circle around the guitar
9. chant, dancing around in a circle, while playing maracas
10. sacrifice a rubber chicken
11. spit twice on the strap button while holding your nose
12. lift the guitar above your head while screaming in ecstasy

of course, you can also just simply put in a toothpick and it will hold well without any glue.
