For the money these Squiers are going for you're better off just getting a Fender .

Jesus, just read through this whole thread, CANNOT believe how fast these are appreciating. Now that I have a Vista Venus XII that blows me away on quality I see why, but damn.

Thanks for doin' the thread, speedfish.

I love this thread. Does a lot of work for me.
Squier Super-Sonics were built by Fender Japan that had Squier labels on them instead of Fender. One has to realize that there aren't really any Fender or Squier guitars - They are all FMIC. Which ones get which labels is all just marketing. Fender really could have Fender labels on it all. It is just brand management. Trying to maintain the Fender brand reputation for a certain level of quality while still cashing in on the inexpensive guitar market by using the Squier by Fender label. It's all smoke and mirrors.
The Vista Series was an attempt to market upscale Squiers. It failed, in part, because of the previous success of marketing Squier as of lower quality - people had trouble paying Fender prices for Squier guitars. But they were as good as contemporary Fender Japan guitars.
Here's a thought: if Japan builds better guitars than Mexico (?), then are the Squier Super-Sonics better than the Fender Pawn Shop Super-Sonics?

Are all Vista series getting to be worth that kind of money now? There is a Vista Jagmaster for sale near me that I've had my eye on, for $350...I'm not terribly interested in Jagmasters, but I'd buy it if I knew it were going to go up in value.

The first one I bought was blue. Since I got it in 1998, I have changed it several times. In fact, I am about to change it yet again. Looking at this one on eeb eh, however, makes me wonder if I shouldn't have just left it alone.
I do have the original parts from the black one - maybe I should restore it? The only real problem would be that I installed a jack on the side and would need to cover that up.

I dunno. I played one of the reissues the other day, and it really felt like a clunker compared to the original.
