Fender serviceman guitars
Soooo I love the serviceman guitars and I'm always looking for them on eBay so I thought I would make a thread where we can post them whenever they pop up. (Kinda like that supersonic thread)
Here's a Tele just added! http://bit.ly/1hixAes

Except that it's not a serviceman, it's just a Japanese Telecaster copy.
Serviceman guitars are fake Fenders made in the Philippines and sold to US soldiers during the Vietnam war.
I think the Fender decal is more recent, and I don't see why they would put the Japanese serial number on a sticker if they tried to pass it off as a Fender.

While those Strats with the Jag-type trems look pretty cool, I've played two and they were really shit guitars I wouldn't even buy as a convo piece. One I played was a Burgandy Mist with matching headstock and fingerboard binding, so I can't tell you how much I wanted it to be decent. No truss rod, pickups non adjustable, and those trems don't work/are just some junk vaguely fashioned into a Jaguar-esque trem (probably rehoused serviceman Jaguar trems given how hard it would be to do an Strat trem from scratch).
The first thing I always remember about them though is the fake middle black ply on the pickguard, which was a decal/paint or something. That did give me a smile, there's a funny charm to how good they look until you get right up close.

I'm sure that can be had for a good price, but just the body without the hardware and electronics is not that interesting, I'm not sure if the neck pocket is the same size as Fender either.
