Finding good deals
On mustangs is so hard these days!
Sorry, this thread is basically just to introduce myself and moan about how hard it is to get a good deal on mustangs in the UK.
I've had my white (maybe olympic, maybe vintage, whatever it's called) '69 reissue mustang for nearly 10 years, and my sonic blue (or whatever) jag-stang for about the same time.
The time has come to sell off a couple of my other guitars that I don't really care for and get another mustang but there's just not any decent deals. Ideally I'd like one a little beaten up and cheaper but they all seem to be £450+ mint condition ones, or pawn shop models.
Anyone know anywhere better to look for mustangs than ebay and gumtree?

Cheers for the info, I've played a few of the Squiers and they're actually really pretty nice, it's just that if I get another guitar I want it to be one I want to proudly own forever. And owing to my own personal vanity, I prefer it to say "Fender" than "Squier" on the headstock, and I just prefer the feel of the MiJ mustangs to the Squier ones.Fakir Mustache wrote:Squier. But you also won't find beat to hell ones because they came out less than 2 years ago.
That said, I think the Squier mustangs are some of the best "value/beginner/budget/whatever" guitars available right now
Edit:
I did consider getting a squier at one point, mainly just to switch the plastic '64-'65 looking tuners for the metal ones off my MiJ

The Squiers also have a different radius ("modern" 9.5" as opposed to 7.25). I'd just keep an eye on craigslist. You probably won't find any deals on eBay. Don't underestimate a trip to the local guitar shop though; I found my '64 mustang when I just happened to be at the local store when the guy who had it was trying to sell it. He didn't have internet access, so it wasn't online anywhere lol. got it for a steal
Thanks man, that's really useful information. You wouldn't happen to know if my 2004-2005 MiJ Mustang has the 7.25" radius would you? I assume so because it feels slinkier to play than the squiers.Clipman3 wrote:The Squiers also have a different radius ("modern" 9.5" as opposed to 7.25). I'd just keep an eye on craigslist. And that's a great tip about staying in local guitar shops, maybe I'll go in to a couple of my local ones and give the store owners / staff my phone number in case anyone comes in after selling one
Good to hear about your steal, it gives me hope!

Hey, no problem. I just did a quick search, and it looks like they are in fact true to vintage spec on the radius. I'm by no means the expert though, so I'd look into it a bit.
Here's the LINK I found
Sorry mate what do you mean by Reverb? Is that a foreign website for used guitars?torchindy wrote:Reverb? Shipping but might still be a good deal
Thanks a lot, that's really useful - can't see your link here but I'm going to look into it further anyway.Clipman3 wrote:Hey, no problem. I just did a quick search, and it looks like they are in fact true to vintage spec on the radius. I'm by no means the expert though, so I'd look into it a bit.

Whether it's foreign depends on where you are, I guess.
Thanks that was.... really helpful, but I did manage to find the website and it could be useful depending on shipping costsmixtape wrote:Reverbsread92 wrote: Sorry mate what do you mean by Reverb? Is that a foreign website for used guitars?

I don't mind people that do. I own an 88-92 Korean Squier Strat which is a lovely guitar. Maple neck, vintage white, sounds and plays superb. It's just if I get another guitar now, I'd rather get one that I'm 100% happy with to keep forever, which to me means getting a fender.Punkacc9 wrote:Oh boy. He darn said he's not proud to have the headstock say billy squier.
Sorry if;
1) People not like squiers offends people here
2) you were joking and I've taken that reply far too seriously

People here tend to take offense to that. It's whatever to me. It's your opinion. A lot of big players play squiers and epiphones for that matter. And I'm not one to complain about putting a fender logo on a squier as long as you don't go to sell it as one or claim it's a fender.
Congratulations! Your Punkacc9 evolved into Awstin.
