I've been looking for a Squier Standard Tele in CAR for a while, seems they were discontinued at some point. Anyway, I found one in stock and ordered it from a website, it arrived in perfect condition with the cellophane wrap still on the pickguard and tuners, stickers still on etc. The funny thing was I noticed the bridge saddles were not the same as the pictures I'd been drooling over, and after taking the guitar apart found that this has actually been hanging up somewhere for 14 years.
I posted this tale on another forum and they say I should receive a sizeable discount, return it or ask for freebies. My girlfriend agrees. I personally think it's a cool thing to have happened, I still consider the guitar new since it's clearly unused. At first I thought I was wrongly deciphering the serial number on the headstock, but I stripped the guitar down and both the neck heel and body are stamped 10th May 2000. I also found that the pickguard is bright white underneath the heel overhang, but sunburnt cream everywhere else. I didn't actually notice the pickguard wasn't white until I saw the contrast between the two areas.
So as I said, it's pretty weird but a bit of a cool story bro. There's certainly nothing wrong with it quality wise, and apart from the bridge saddles being the barrel-type rather than the block-type there don't seem to be any other differences between this guitar and the current Standard series Teles.
