This is a project I am very excited about. I ordered a ash telecaster body from Warmoth. I picked this one because I wanted to stain it and the patterns in the picture online looked super sweet. I got it today and am even more excited to have it in person. (Also thanks to the little girl who brought it to me. F*ck you UPS for dropping it off at the wrong house... LOL)

If you watched my Wooly Mammoth demo video, this last pic is pretty funny. Warmoth sent me picks with the body.

That is a fine-looking piece of wood. How dark are you going to stain it?

Looks exactly like my telecaster I cut out of Southern Ash. I made a Baja Telecaster out of it.

I am going to try normal walnut instead of dark like I have used before. I might try to do a Costello vibe since I have really liked the guitars I did in the past with that combo. Stained body with tort just seems cool to me. I also thought about a white wash finish, but I have a white tele and a blonde, so I though it would be good to do something a little different. I don't have any stained teles.

You ought to consider one of these for your tele. A lot easier to install and it doesnt' come loose like the traditional ones.
Tele Input Jack Cup
I like mine and it's a lot less hassle.

Totally. I actually have one and like using them a lot. I put one in my Jupiter project most recently. I only have a cup jack in my blonde tele and that was because I couldn't get the cup out. LOL

I love how light my telecaster is. Easily my lightest guitar.

This one was just a bit over 4lbs. Feels pretty light. I am only going to stain and seal. No clear on this one. At least that is what I want to try. Thinking a more natural look might feel and look cool.

That is pretty hot. I like the semi transparent finishes when the wood is nice looking.

Staining has gone better than I hoped. The ripples I saw in the pictures lead to some awesome wavy patterns. I really like it! Tomorrow I will work on sealing it.(So it can dry fully.)

Yeah, really cool how the stain is bringing out more contrast in the grain.
Looking great!

How long until you can clearcoat?

Probably three or so days. I need to do the sides still. I also need to do probably two more coats or until it stops sucking it in. Then I will polish it with steel wool and either do tru-oil (which I think I will) or clear spray.
I have wanted to try tru-oil for awhile and this seems like a good chance.
