Using lighter strings on a Jaguar

Post by luciguci »

I recently replaced the 11-50 D'Addario flatwounds with a set of 10-46 round wounds and I love the difference in the sound. It's more trebly and jangly and easier on the fingers, but I kind of miss the smooth feel of the flatwounds. Is there some middle ground that would satisfy both needs?

Doesn't D'Addario make half-rounds?

Sort of pointless. Only the wound strings differ between flats and rounds.

I think the thread title had him thinking dafty wanted a lighter feel with the flatwound 11 vibe to it, when really he wants the sound of roundwound strings with the feel of flats. Flats in 10s wouldn't do it either.

Half-rounds are really the only answer here, if you don't like them you're going to have to compromise somewhere.
And I'm not really familiar with them outside of d'addario bronze 12-strings, but coated guitar strings with a thicker sploogeweb (or whatever it's called idk) on them might feel smoother.
