AVRI Jag High E string woes

Post by 71Smallbox »

Hello, does anyone have any tips for getting rid of burs in the tremolo assembly, my high E breaks from there quit often. I used to put a bit of solder on the base of the string but fatherhood has really put a crimp in my free time. What type of file would work best for this?
thanks in advance.

I used a round needle file, well worth investing in a small set if you tinker with guitars as well.

I have one of these which has been useful for that sort of stuff, filing nuts for headstocks, filing pickguards that need a little adjustment to fit correctly, etc.

Thats well cool. I've got a Dremmel Set which is similar, never thought to suggest that. Good call.

I bought a set of welder's files - they were cheap, and exactly the same as Stewmac sell (for far more) as fret files.

i have had the same problem. I solved it when i switch my ernie ball strings to d'addarios. I beat hard the guitar on stage and i never broke a strings again since one or two years i changed for d'addario exl116.

Its definately not that as I use D'addarios, it's got to be a bur on the tremolo.

As Fran said - round file or rolled grades of sandpaper, working up to a fine grit. Then lightly lube the hole with Vaseline and/or graphite from a pencil.

I had this happen on both my avri's but my cij is fine. I just rolled up some lighter grit sandpaper and twisted it around a bit.

I have some of the StewMac nut slotting files I use for bridges, I recently slotted a Nashville tuneomatic with them. They are expensive though like most Stew Mac stuff... I only have 3 of them, to approximate my preferred string gauges.

The welder's tip cleaner tool thing seems to be the popular route these days, I keep meaning to get one.
