Pawn shop mustang necks
I recently got a mustang in need of a new neck (the previous owner tried some diy scalloping ). My favorite neck ever is on my Pawn shop mustang so I thought I'd try to get my hands on one of those or one with similar specs. However after looking around I find 3 different versions of the Pawn shop mustang and they all seem to have different necks.
1. The first Japanese (the one I have and the one I want a copy of). Has "Mustang Special" logo, nut width 42mm.
2. Mexican. Has "Mustang Special" logo, nut width 42mm, and truss-rod adjustment at the top.
3. Second Japanese. Has regular mustang logo, nut width 40mm.
First I assumed that the first Japanese and the Mexican were identical (except the truss-rod), but after looking at the Fender website I am not so sure. According to it the Pawn shop and the Squier mustang have very similar specs, but the Squiers I have tried felt nothing like my Japanese Pawn shop. The only difference is the Squiers C-shape vs. the Pawn shops "60's C". Is there a difference? The Pawn shop are the only ones I can find with a "60's C".
Anyone know what is going on? I am confused.

I always thought the Kurt Cobain Mustang necks were similiar though perhaps a little chunkier that the PS Mustang necks.
The neck on my Jag-stang is narrower and thinner with a nut width of 40mm.

They are . Much chunkier than my 69RI was . You would swear the KC Stang was an Ensenada guitar till you see the neck . Alder body , thick neck , etc.taylornutt wrote:I always thought the Kurt Cobain Mustang necks were similiar though perhaps a little chunkier that the PS Mustang necks.

I think they're about the same if not the KC is a hair chunkier . I own both . I'll have to get on them and see.honeyiscool wrote:As far as MIJs go, Cobain is quite chunky. But still comfortable. However, it is not as chunky as a Jaguar Special HH neck, which is truly chunky.
'65 is probably the most balanced. The '69 and '73 seem very thin, but I like that.
69s are thin and slick . I actually traded a 69RI for the KC Stang .. There are days I regret it . I'm chasing a 69RI with a racing stripe actually in San Diego . I hope I'm able to acquire it this weekend .

Interesting. There might be some sample variation. I found the KC Mustang to be playably chunky, whereas the Jag Special was uncomfortably chunky.Rox wrote:I checked the dimentions of the necks of the Jag Special and a KC Mustang ... Virtually the identical neck . 69RIs are a bit thinner .. I should have one of those again by the end of the month.
Kicking and squealing Gucci little piggy.

To end the curiosity I measured the widths of the necks on my Jag Special , KC Mustang and my 69RI Mustang .. Them shits be identical. I would of swore the 69RI was thinner but on this one it isn't . Did they vary in certain years ? I wouldn't of thought they all had the same width .
