NGD: Squier Cabronita

So I won £200 last night on the Real vs Bayern game.

It paid for this:

Been after another Tele-type thing for a while but could never make up my mind, this bet made it up for me. Didn't have any spare cash to add and this fitted the bill perfectly. Didn't want the cash to vanish on food / bills etc... so used it straight away and celebrated my winnings.

Have always always been into these, and was close to buying the mexican variant at one point. Was excited when they announced the Squier ones initially and was determined to buy one, but the first one that landed in my shop had badly corroded frets, and inked up around the pickups holes to some hide wear / discolouration. Was obvious having that purpley tone you get from permanent marker, not jet black as people often think. Anyways, that put me off... but thankfully this one is a beauty, plays excellent. No duff frets or signs of poor manufacturing. Think the same inconsistencies can be said for much of the Vintage Modified line sadly, but there are very good ones out there. May upgrade things in due course, not sure it needs / warrants it but will blacken the backplate ASAP though.

Pretty niche sound wise really, but great for what it does do, and a departure from the Jag / Jazz thing I'm more familiar with.

I'm against giving guitars names but I want to call it Ronaldo, and get his face etched on a neck plate for it hahaa..

Anyways, chuft with 'free' guitar.

Good win! Congrats on the NG, although I would stop short of calling it Ronaldo ;)

Nice I fancied getting one of these when they were released but never got round to playing one... Nice win all round.

It's a nice player. I think as good as the a Fender. Not the TV Jones equipped version but the standard. They did a good job on it.

Great stuff, and nice final touch there.

...though I fear your etched Ronaldo may have been eating one too many pastel de nata :)

Haa, thanks Ultra.

The neck plate was stencil'd and sprayed on. Was gonna score and ink, but the car bumper paint I used adhered really well.

Decided I wasn't particularly keen on the Headstock or control backplate, so it has been stripped and oiled, and the back plate is now pure black. Only the fatty Ronaldo neck plate remains which I do like, and is subtle enough.

In terms of real mods, I do have these on the way:

Later I will be upgrading the nut, but otherwise I love everything else.
