Fender MP Shortscale Strats/Teles/Jazz Basses
Moderated By: mods
My short strat just came in today from Andertons. So far I love this thing, the body shape and proportions looks completely natural to me, not at all too small. Some things that might not be super obvious to those who are interested, since there aren't a whole lot of specs; The neck is the vintage deep U Standard C. I got confused between U, standard C and flattened C. The humbucker is smaller then a standard humbucker, so those thinking of replacing it will have to modify the pickguard. Mine shipped with 11-49g strings. Not sure if it is like that from the factory or if its from the dealer, but mine had some corrosion so I'm guessing it's factory. The nut width is 1-5/8".

Edit: I just finished setting up the guitar and moved the pickups a little closer and it really cleared up the bridge pickup. It's still not ridiculously bright but it has more punch then before and matches the other pickups output a little better. Here ya go!

They probably made this series to get rid of the Guild pickups they had left over.roballo wrote:Not sure if it is like that from the factory or if its from the dealer, but mine had some corrosion so I'm guessing it's factory.
Took it apart to see what's going on under the hood. So it turns out my qualms about the bridge PO are not unfounded, as it is actually a neck pickup! I think these are the ones that Guild is using in the Starfire IV's. The width is 1.375 and the length is 2.76, humbuckers and filters are both different sizes. I can't find any pickup that will replace this thing. The n/m po's are the standard ones for the modern player strats, mp-s1n-vc for the neck and mp-s1m-vc for the middle.
EDIT: ALSO, the body is routed for that size of pickup. A regular humbucker will not fit in the routing.

Standard sized strat (copy)
I am 5'8"
I'm interested in trying out both but there's no info about when they'll be available Stateside.

about 28.75" from nut to butt, and about 36" from top to bottomCasual_Reader wrote: I'm curious as to the length of the fret board from inside of nut to center of the butt
also the width of the butt at it's widest point? same as a strat? about 2 & 3/16ths?
and it's kind of hard to measure but the width is somewhere between 1.5-1.7" Looks about the same as a strat. Lower bout is 12"

DISAGREE. My Jag bass is shortscale and is hella punchier on the p-bass pup than my, uh, p-bass.ZenJenga wrote:Full scale basses sound better anyway. More low end.brainfur wrote:....and they did it too late because now im used to playing a long scale bass

My Mustang bass was punchier than my p bass... I think it has to more with the position of the pickup and the tone potentiometer than the scale. ...theshadowofseattle wrote:DISAGREE. my bad. I meant from inside the nut to the end of the heel of the neck - the butt end of the fret board.roballo wrote:about 28.75" from nut to butt, and about 36" from top to bottomCasual_Reader wrote: I'm curious as to the length of the fret board from inside of nut to center of the butt
width - a strat would be around 2.19" - this may be a bit narrower.
