Good news/bad news/bad news regarding Baja teles

Post by benecol »

So. The good news is, Fender are doing 60s versions of the Baja. The bad news (x2) is that i) they've not bound the body (and sonic blue is the only interesting colour) and ii) they've slimmed the neck down. The fools.

Could have been so good, but they've fucked it up. Which isn't like Fender at all, oh no...

I always forget how the switching on these works. 4-way and then the push button is out-of-phase, for whatever reason anybody would ever want that awful sound, right?

Uh. I love the out of phase sound. I've got the 4-way switches on both my Teles wired that way, and my Strat.

Uh. I also prefer slimmer necks.

The colours, however, leave me cold. One of these in Arizona Sun or Charcoal Frost or a nice blue...

Delicious, I like that sonic blue (it seems the same of the Squier Mustang) with the mint green pickguard; +1 for the slimmer neck too LOL. What are the pickups on this?

The maximum weedy sound does fantastic things to octave fuzzes. Secret weapon.

Why are they Baja? It says 25.5" scale.

Or are they made in Baja California?

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

Fuck what a shame about the neck, which is perfect on the Baja.

well said... Well and truly sick of hearing about that decade, all the free love and peace brigade that are now the directors of companies cunts changed fuck all. At least the greed in the 80s was up front and honest... Fuck the 60s!

Agreed. My folks were 60s hippies turned 80s yuppies. Always thought the boom generation turned out quite hypocritical.

However, I must say the 80s guitar aesthethic is a bit iffy IMO.

the necks on those original baja teles were lovely. wouldn't mind it being slimmed down too too much, would have to play it first though. really liking that sonic blue color too.

that being said would have to consider a nice stratocaster before getting another tele. same color combo, tried the CP60's strat in sonic blue and would've bought it but it was just a little bit out of my price range at the time.

Yep. I remember very nearly buying one as a student one summer just after I'd started working a summer job and had my first pay packet. Still annoyed at myself that I didn't, given the price of them now.

There's a lesson in there somewhere...

I meant I was thinking "Baja" means "bass", so I was expecting at least 27" if not 30".

Very few people in the UK know how to pronounce "Baja", so many roffles are to be had hearing people in guitar shops singing the praises of "them badger telecasters".
