i feel the trem lock is too helpful when gauging how to set the trem up to go without one for that money. i suppose its an easy swap for pedants like me
Wait, which Fenders don't have the trem lock? The Chinese Fender Modern Player Jazzmaster I got a few months ago has one. I can't understand why other Fenders out there don't have one? How do they justify that if even the Chinese models get one?
Well fuck. That's like a £200-£300 price difference in some cases, with the more expensive models getting the less functional trem. That's bizarro world stuff there.
i actually think its important to have to set the trem up optimally. if the lock slides in and out perfectly while also locking the trem at pitch, you're in the correct position
Is it supposed to lock the trem into a hardtail? Because the one on my Jaguar doesn't, and that would literally be the only cool thing it could do for me.

it stops the trem from being able to do upward travel only (you can still push down on it) so it's nots really a proper hardtail i guess. tbh i think a jag trem without the arm attached is as hardtailed as it needs. you have to really lean or push into the collet that protrudes the trem plate to get the trem moving by accident, which the lock won't even stop, and i don't even know how you'd pull the trem up by accident unless there's an arm attached.
but a staytrem arm set up properly with a trem lock as a guide is invincible. best trem imo
I dunno about these. I loved my Classic Player Jag when I had it. No complaints about the bridge or the placement of the vibrato plate. (I had to let it go for financial reasons )
Yeah, I think some locks have a groove cut into them so if you engage them correctly it locks the trem from moving up and down. Pretty sure I noticed that on my Japanese Jaguar last time I opened it up. Never really use it and it's at a friends house at the moment so I can't check. It's possible that it only does that on the certain models but my Jag was all busted to fuckery when I got it and I ended up replacing a ton of bits on the trem and I'm not sure where some of the parts came from.
