Yeah and no, imo. I thought of the Libertines as just another Strokes ripoff, but I suppose they maybe went on to create tons of Libertines ripoffs of their own. Ultimately I think it was the Strokes fault. I still really like that first Strokes album though.

i am a HUGE oasis fan. and I don't think i have ever seen this video. I may have NEVER been played in america on tv before.
this whole album was a fucking album its one of those records that you have to play as a record. you cant just cherry pick songs off it. the sum is far greater than all the parts on this album. amazing record to put on while doing homework/going to sleep.
when Noel tries to sing the song without Liam the whole thing falls flat without Liam's grit. the album vocal tracks are that good.

yeah i can listen to the strokes still, hardly ever spin the libertines. i dunno, but imo, tit for tat, the libertines had far more of an influence on the wave of gobby indy uk bands than the strokes, musically at least, and i would also say culturally. in fact musically i dont see the libertines having that much of a direct influence from the strokes at all
I don't think the 'garage rock revival' had influence over much at all, which was the problem I had with it. The songwriting, the guitar sounds/techniques/equipment...not even the politics of the members themselves were in any way interesting or inspiring. It was jangly droning mediocrity and there was so much of it. The Strokes were okay but I guess I just got saturated with this wave of dull music that all sounded the same.
Back on-topic Re: Oasis. Many of their best tracks were b-sides. The Masterplan is a much more enjoyable record than Be Here Now for instance.

I think it was Strokes who was responsible for the whole genre with bed hair and worn leather jackets. After they released EP and album, NME created using them the stage for "The Bands" and started to seek British equivalent for Strokes. So, they found Doherty and Barat who were writting odd songs that weren't brit-pop and who couldn't find audience for their songs

every band that came out in 2004 had "THE" in thier name or "black, fire, dead, or death" in thier name. i boycotted every single one of those fucking bands based on principle. if you are to fucking lazy to spend more than 3 minutes coming up with an original band name your music is going to be just as lazy.
like new bands. now all she likes is fucking Pitbull and Ke$ha.
it makes me really really sad from a spouse standpoint, because trying to find new bands that play drums, guitar, bass, and sing is still a huge part of my life.
she could really give 2 fucks about any of it now and makes me turn down every single fucking thing im trying to listen to in the car.
I try to play records for my kids every morning while they are eating breakfast and it stresses her out completely. she says it doesn't but she acts completely different. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT SO LOUD? because the record player is in the dining room and they are eating in the kitchen thats why and you arent fucking 67 fucking years old either why do you give a shit?
