Mega Milk Tittycaster grounding buzz.

Post by theshadowofseattle »

The tele I slapped together from scraps buzzes like a motherfucker if I'm not touching the strings. Like, way worse than normal. Touching the strings = no buzz, just as you'd expect. The tone pot also stops working and seems to go back to full-on-I-didn't-turn-it-at-all mode if jiggled a bit. Likely that these two are related, or am I more in need of shielding than a new pot?

Actually it sounds like you have a few lugs put together wrong. I'd retrace how you've wired it up vs the diagram you're working from

Yeah, the bridge is grounded - wiring is fine. Everything is functional except that pot.

probably not a good connection to the pot casing, or you fried the cap.

you should solder caps with an alligator clip or similar (it doesn't matter if there's a cable connected to the clip) so the clip will take the heat from the soldering iron and it won't go to the cap. or use a heat sink made for that (which looks kind of similar).

here are some pictures from the internet, first one is a heat sink made for soldering:

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts
