NPD - HELLA DELAY/ECHO TIME (edit: now with videos)

Post by luciguci »

This guitar shop just opened up down the block from my house, so I decided to check it out. They aren't completely stocked yet, and the dude is WAY into 80s metal, so the walls are decked in super strats*

They also had a couple pedals already stocked: an MXR 6-band graphic EQ, a talk box, and an Ibanez DE7. The guy said they hadn't even put a price on it yet, but would let it go for $40, so I went back home to grab my money and bought it and went back home immediately to play with it some more.

HOly shit I'm in love with this pedal. The delay mode is super crisp but natural sounding, and the echo mode is dark and analog sounding, and it still goes up to 2600ms, and it is an absolute dream to play around with, especially when it self oscillates. It doesnt get absurdly loud when it self oscillates either, unlike the Joyo Analog Delay I've got, which is a big plus. I'll have a video up soon with me playing around with the Joyo and the Ibanez together.

*(although to be honest, i played with one of his handmade super strats and it sounded really nice)

- Captain eggshell blue, do you have the delay device?
- Why yes, I have it here in my strange plastic hands...

shoegazing the fuck outta this pedal and two others

I start with the ibanez in delay mode, switch it into echo mode at 00:14, turn the spring reverb on at 00:36

DE7 is an underrated classic. That was my first pedal based delay.

I love these....I would have probably owned one by now but I've found the footswitches to be tempermental on all the pedals I've tried in this series.

I have the Ibanez AW7 auto wah for a while and I haven't had any issues with the footswitch, so I guess it just depends on which one you get? I dunno.

Anyways, I did another video, this is the Ibanez on echo at 2000ms, the Danelectro PB&J at 1000ms, and a spring reverb.

edit: same audio, but im using the a jean painleve video for the visuals

Pretty sure I bought this from you. I use mine on my board (albeit not loads) and I think it's great, especially for the price.

absolutely, especially with the delay time being as long as it is. ive been playing around with it and in front of a spring reverb, i cant help but think about yo la tengo's "the sounds of the sounds of science", which is what that last video i posted is largely inspired by (even going as far as ripping a jean painleve film to use as the visuals)
