..as explained here. It's not really binding, they mill out the neck leaving a border and drop a rosewood fretboard into the depression. So the "binding" is part of the maple neck. Sorry.

I think these channel bound standard strats sound great from clips I've heard, but American Standard Strats have sounded great for a long time.
