Hi Flyer in the works! PG.3 Loads of Pictures
I have wanted a Hi Flyer to play for fun but I know reviews are mixed. The bodies seem to be thin like other guitars of that sort I have had. That tends to lead to neck pocket issues and such. I decided I would likely be happiest if I just put together my own. I checked with Cooterfinger to see if he could make me one that would work with a Fender neck. Turns out that should be no problem. It will be Strat scale. I want to do white on white. Maple neck is my main goal, but I think Sunburst would be cool also. I am going to do a white headstock for it. I plan on using a Jazzy tremolo on it with a roller TOM. I have a JB and a '59 already I am not using with chrome covers. Basically I just need a neck and paint once he does the body. I have pretty much all the other parts. Here is kind of the idea.

Yeah, but I don't want one of those. I like the look of the guitar but I don't like how thin the body is, I don't like the plastic roller bridge, and some other things these guitars have. I like Fender necks. I am used to them so having one built that uses a temolo I like, neck I like, body thickness I like, etc seemed like a better move then paying a bunch for something that doesn't have what I want.

I've never seen one in person, but there are a few details on these that put me off them.weeping_moon wrote:Buy the Harley Benton version.
The on the back of the guitar where the neck attatches looks off. The sharp corners make it look cheap and shoddy.
And at the risk of corksniffery, the angle of the neck pickup and end of the fretboard looks too steep.
Though, on the sunburst models, the darker colours help to disguise these things.
Made my decal. I like the way the old Univox logo looks.

Cooterfinger worked a template for the project and it is looking great! He adjusted it for a Fender neck and tremolo, moved the bridge pickup to compensate, and moved the toggle to the horn area for me. Looking great!
