...and then steal from his pocket, like he's doing to some uneducated eBayer.

My issue isn't really with the aesthetics of 'road worn' or 'reliced' instruments...it's just, why pay so much extra for something cosmetic? If you want your guitar to look beat up and well used, that's cool - no different from choosing a particular colour or something really. But how do these people get away with pulling stunts like this?

The sad thing is, some gullible fool will actually buy it at that price. Bah.

it looks like someone threw it down the stairs, dragging it behind a car, and then smeared their feces all over it

Reminds me of that dingus who made that video showing how he reliced his jaguar with acid and stuff and acted all smartypants about it.

I don't understand why everyone seems to think that an old instrument will look like somebody has rubbed stain all over it and sanded it in places with heavy grit paper. How the hell would it ever conceivably get that way? This is like the crayon art version of a relic job.

Would have been pretty cool if he made the logo read "Feces" instead of "Fender".

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

Agreed, this is an atrocious attempt. I never seen wear on necks like on this jag, even seriously abused ones. Do people who do this even know what natural wear and tear looks like on guitars?

" Relicking" has been getting a " Beaten " lately ..
To me a good relic job should make the guitar " rustic?" and more comfortable . It should also make the sound better due to the thinning of the paint job . A relicked neck should just be lightly sanded to the point where it's smooth and deglossed . It should almost be a work of art since it's an art form.
Whoever the fuck to the innitiative to define " Relicking " as to smash your shit and abuse it is a loss in translation .

Relic art

That's a good point, Rox. We could see it as an art form...pure aesthetics, ignore any pretense. Like distressed furniture. Works for me.

One correction. Removing some finish is not going to change the sound. Even different woods will not change the sound. The sound of an electric guitar comes from the strings, pickups and their settings, amp and its settings, not to mention pedals. Attack is part of the sound we hear, also. Maybe pots.

But if woods...or finish...made any difference at all, it would be beyond the range of human hearing, possibly measurable by calibrated scientific instruments in a controlled laboratory setting.

The role of woods or finishes in electric guitar sound is a myth, an artifact of the electric's hollow-body guitar origins.

This started out life as a brand new Squier Jaguar in surf green and has been aged to look like it has been battered about. It has a 60's era correct decal added along with some era correct kluson tuners too. The rest of the guitar is as standard, and has also had some premature oxidisation on the metal work created in areas along with burn marks etc etc. This does not look like a new guitar and also is not a professionally created custom shop guitar....so if you buy it don't expect it to be....however the pictures give you a very accurate idea of what you are buying.
I think he's been pretty honest about what he sold. He's not trying to pass it off as anything it isn't (i.e. hasn't been totally modded in New Jersey). It looks shit but at least he's telling you what he's done.

I still think he has really bad tastes. Check out what he did here: eeeebay
That's a rather fetching piece of furniture, if he just painted it solid and not faked someone rubbing shit on the edges, it would have been pretty nice. I don't think I'd even want something like that in my house if it's not painted properly.
