I recently acquired an Ampeg 4x10 cab. I intended to use it with my SVT CL amp, but realized last night that I'm an idiot and didn't check the Ohm ratings first. The SVT is either 2 and 4 Ohms, but the cab is 8.
Does anyone know if it's possible to hook up some sort of dummy load or attenuator or something that would help run the 8 Ohm cab out of my 4 Ohm head without blowing either of them up?
If the cab is 8 ohms you can almost for sure rewire it to make it 2 ohms. Right now it's probably four 8 ohm speakers wired series/parallel to make 8 ohms, but if you run them all parallel they'll end up as 2 ohms.

You can run a head looking for 2 or 4 ohms into an 8 ohm cab without any real issues, beyond reduce power and possibly pushing the power amp harder.. which I guess could cause problems over time.
Rewiring the cab seems like a better option rllllly
you can do it at low volume but i wouldn't really push the amp or anything, definitely would say rewire the cab to be safe though. always like to make sure the ohms match.
