Boss SD-1 love

Post by 71Smallbox »

I started playing in a band again and gave my extensive pedal collection(not that big, but I like dirt and fuzz) a run through to find what works for my setup and the band I am in. Firstly, the band is a Krautrock-Shoegaze-Dark Post Punk-Spacemen 3 type of thing, if you can imagine that. I found that with my AC30 and Jag, the best light overdrive is the lowly SD-1. Its perfect in this situation. If I don't have fuzz going, this pedal is always on. It also kicks some mids into my old green Big Muff. Anyone else love this pedal?

I wanted to buy because there were good reviews and it's not expensive, but I didn't.

I always fall back on the SD-1 or a Tubescreamer. They are industry standards for a reason.
The Mid kick with a Big Muff was something I used a lot in one band.

In summary; Its still a great pedal.

I briefly had a modern SD1 and it generated a huge amount of hiss, although I liked the general sound. I always wondered if the older, mojo, MIJ versions weren't so noisy?

I don't find my 94 MIT ACA adaptor SD-1 to be any noisier than my tubescreamer. Maybe you had a bad unit?

I tried one recently with a Squier Jaguar and it sounded horrible. Which was a shame because I really wanted to like it
