GFS Gold Foil Pickups in my Jag
After lots of deliberation I've decided to make my Jag HH a Guinea Pig for the new GFS Gold Foil Pickups, specifically the Ferrite single coils. It's got GFS P-90s in it right now but it's lacking high-end character and these seem like an interesting solution for the problem. I'll try and put them in around Thanksgiving if I get them by then, after which I'll be sure to report on how they sound.

Unfortunately I don't, I've just heard that these have the characteristics of the old ones but don't need to be surface-mounted like a lot of the old ones. Someone on Offset Guitars posted some soundclips that make it sound like the pickups are brighter than P-90s but still plenty thick. Personally I'm just looking for something interesting and different rather than an exact replica of the previous versions, but I'll describe them as best I can (and try to post clips) when I get them put in.

They are new, I think GFS just posted them on their site a couple weeks ago.61fury wrote:Are they new? I just saw them after searching for info and pics of them.
A P-90 and lipstick combo is pretty much just what I'm after. The P-90s that are in it now aren't bad, but they sound a little too mid-rangey and tame to me. I'm hoping for a little gnarly-ness out of the gold foils.Rox wrote:These make me want to rewire my Jag Special back to HH to run these. Pretty cool . I'd imagine they'd be between a p-90 and a lipstick . Or a less gnarly phat cat if there is such thing?

I just got the pickups into my Jag yesterday, and I'm really happy with them so far. Way brighter than the P-90s that were in there without being ice-picky at all. They are a little microphonic, but at the low volumes I generally play at I haven't noticed any huge problems. Plus, this means I can scream into them ala Isaac Brock, with I will definitely screw around with.
And now, pics!
Jag gutshot, a little rough looking like the rest of the guitar but nothing too awful looking.
I had a hard time finding a close-up shot of the lower horn wiring before I took it apart, so I figured I'd post it here for anyone curious about what this looks like in real life and not on a diagram.
Gold and chrome look great together, I love shiny things on top of other shiny things.
Close-up of the pickups, this looks even better than I thought it would.
