need a home recording amp

guys I need a amp for home recording -- obviously i want it to be cheap as fuck-- i played a 1w blackstar that sounded really good but it only has a 8" speaker-- is there a reason to update to something larger or will a 8" speaker sound ok on recordings?

is there another 200$ ish amp that i should look at instead? the ac4 w/ 12" is like 350 and doesnt sound better just gets louder

Shit for $350 you could get a silverface Champ, which would be my vote.

Remember you can always plug the amp into the speaker cabinet of your choice. That small speaker may give you some rad Queen 'Deacy' style tones even.

i think I would have to look really hard to find a champ under 450 but I guess its possible

Really? I bought my VibroChamp for $425 from a vintage store in LA, and I thought that was expensive. I saw a regular Champ at a store in the Bay Area for $299. It wasn't the cleanest, but it worked fine and sounded good. I've seen quite a few in the $300-$400 price range on CL over the past few years. A friend of mine in Berkeley had 3 Champs that he bought off CL... none was over $400. Have the prices really gone up recently? Or is just that most of them never made it out of California?

I feel for you guys in the UK... but at least silverfaces exist there. Finding gear like that in Taiwan is quite a challenge.

There is a vibro champ for 425, and a champ for $399 on reverb, people on there are pretty good for bargaining a better deal. The gear page and amberswitchtip.com are usually pretty good for $400 vibro champs. My bronco was about $350iirc, it seems steep but they really are great amps for bedroom levels.

Here is a champ for $350, based on the number of bumps, there might be negotiation room

A lot of people ask high prices, but usually they sell for under $450 from what I have seen, unless it is a specific model (ex, drip edge, or black face) which is silly because there were no huge changes to the circuit.

FYI, amberswitchtip.com classified have a recapped, weber speaker, drip edge bronco for $450, might want to head over quick
