Cheap and good hotrails.

Post by Noirie. »

I fancy getting a cheap and cheerful hotrail for my Mustang but not sure what to buy. Would of liked a Seymour Duncan but A) too expensive and B) too much output for me.

Anyone got recommendations?

Was considering an Axerus one.

were you looking for single or dual rails? i really like the look of the artec "soul zone" which is a single coil

http://www.thomann.de/gb/artec_soul_zon ... d4dee32bc4

8k though, quite pokey for a neck position, but was thinking of putting them in my bratomaster

they also do standard rails too

edit: oh wow, apparently it's an active pickup. fuck that.

I used THESE Artec hot rails in my old Duosonic that was sitting in pieces. They're a really good match for it and super cheap to boot!!

5 conductor wire too, so good for messing about with should you want to add a splittable option.

Find a used Duncan Quarter Pounder . It ain't a rail but you'd be pleased .

But if you insist on a good cheap rail check GFS Lil Puncher Cool Vintage or the Lil Puncher XL if you want hot hot .

And though it's not a rail you might wanna read up on the Brightens . Like a Burns Tri-Sonic.

I like DiMarzios, they sound good, cost a bit less than Duncans I think, but are not dirt cheap.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

I've considered one of these. The Jaguar ones for it.

I've got a SJAG-2 in my Jaguar and already love that.

Anyone know the output of Squier Mustang pickups anyway? They don't sound too high output to my ears

I think I measured mine at around 7.4k? Or was it 6.9k? Wasn't vintage mustang output at least

Mine was quite a quiet guitar. Don't know why, maybe the stock bridge or something.

I remember the neck was 6 something k ohms, bridge was more, I don't remember how much.

It is an SC-101B, here's one at 11.49K: ebay might be from a strat but it's the same model. Maybe some came lower.

In any case it's pretty loud for a Mustang/strat pickup.

got me curious and measured mine: neck around 6.7-6.9k, bridge 10.4-10.5k ohms.

still the bridge pickup is not that loud to balance with the neck, even with the bridge pickup raised as high as it will go with the springs still in and the neck almost level to the scratchplate.

The Artecs are good stuff, they measure up well to the more expensive ones. I have an alnico hot rail copy in the neck of my Jag paired up with a quarter pounder in the bridge. Probably the meanest sounding guitar I have currently. I also have another 11k tele bridge alnico hot rails that I'm going to use with my Nu Sonic when I finally get around to it.

Pick 'em up now because the price is shooting up on the Artec stuff. I got both of mine for around £10 each from a Chinese seller on eBay.

Might have to put this thought on hold until next month.

For some reason the Jaguar ain't working anymore. Like the electronics have died or something. Will need to get that sorted first I think.

Cheers for the suggestions though guys.

Kinda wish there was more guitars that come with Hotrails stock that I could try out and stuff.
