Rickenbacker basses are also good, but really, as far as I'm concerned the Precision Bass is THE BASS GUITAR, everything else is basically an unnecessary copy of one sort or another.

"Modern features" is the kind of thing that piques my interest in relation to guitars, things like chunky chrome saddles, automatic tuning systems, push-pull coil taps and so on. All fairly unnecessary but sometimes nice to have. But the term "modern features" used in relation to bass guitars makes my skin shrivel and my penis retract. It conjures up images of active electronics, recessed controls, those horrible Warwick-style melted candle-like bodies and extra strings. Fuck that.
I play a P bass.

My ideal/future bass stable will probably be something along the lines of

P bass with rounds
4003 with rounds
Fretless jazz bass with tapes
Hofner with flats.

So yeah I'm also not a fan of "modern features" for the most part, however a while back the bassist in my band was given a 5 string olp musicman copy, and when I checked it out I can't say I was unimpressed with the humbucker output and the extra low end on the 5th string. It actually sounded good in its own way. So different strokes and all that. I'm actually glad those melty looking 6 string things have their place in music I also don't like for the most part. Kinda like pointy guitars and PRS.

Also funny you should say that about the Rics....over the years half of the players (both guitar and bass) that sparked my love of Rics now play Fenders almost exclusively now. I guess there's probably a good reason for that but I'm still in denial.

Interesting?

Quite like the double cut Tele though. Much nicer than those thinline ones with the TOM.

Edit: here's a pic

The only guitar I wanted to see was the mustang, because what does shortboard mean?

Well, it doesn't have anything to do with guitars. They literally meant shortboard, like a short surfboard. And the mustang has nothing mustang about it.

I think Fender are trying to distance themselves from this place.

I gotta give Fender an F from what I've seen so far. And that's not a pun, F as in FAIL.

Suspect I'll be alone in this but you could reverse that for me. Have never understood the appeal of Telemasters. Everyone else seems to rave about them though.
