The black one looks like something Steve Albini might play...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Fender "Offset Telecaster" Telemaster . Sucks it's only in Placid Blue but hey, they're making it .
Schecter has made some cool ones as well. The New S-1 and the new S-2 Platinum.. It was like Dano actually copied Schecter this year with those two models .

It has been mentioned, and frowned upon.

I don't know, maybe just my impression, but it looks like the guitar&bass brands want to copy old, vintage stuff or the guitars of other brands this year: this Schecter seems a sort of hybrid between an old ESP Ultratone, a Hagstrom F-style and a Greg Bennett TR2.

Quite chuffed that Dano are rereleasing the convertible. Always wanted one, never really understood why. But it might push the second hand prices of the originals/original reissues down, so that'll be good (because fuck paying Mexi Fender prices for a homophobe Danelectro LOL)

What are the issues with the Fender Telemaster?

Dunnope. Looks okay if you like that kind of thing. I think it might be ridiculously expensive? A German site has it up for €1380.

Not a shit guitar, just not anything new and unsurprisingly overpriced. Gotcha.

It's part of the American Standard range. Price seems consistent with the Strats and Teles in that range.

Also if fender released the telemaster 2-3 years ago when it was still relatively cool and fresh it might have been a good idea. it's kind of old news now

Unlike the rest of their range. Which is only about 50 years old ;)

ehh it's just a little embarrassing that people in the great wide world invented it, not fender, and then finally they come out with their own way after it's no longer got any buzz. they should have at least jumped on it straight away and been shrewd/shameless about it

Wasn't it originally a Custom Shop model that lots of people copied? Might be totally wrong about that though.

I thought it was some aftermarket custom job someone did and it caught wind but I might be wrong about that. If fender first racked it up then that's terrible of them for not making a meat and potatoes version. If they'd have done it properly we'd be on to a squier vm version by now

Quick Google and it looks like it was a limited run CS design from 2008, sold exclusively through some guitar shop in Chicago.

Get your point though, Fender are pretty late to their own party on this one...

It's about the going price for an American model like Bearboy said ... What's stupid is that it comes in one friggin color.. It's not like they're gonna lose their shirts on it . Give a little bit more choice .. My Rutters Telemaster would blow this thing out the water anyway..

The new one has a piezo, but it looks like the exact same shitty bridge on mine. I'm assuming it's a contact pickup mounted inside the body, which might be interesting.

Dano seems to be keen on replacing their original 3 screw trems with those stop tail atrocities, the one model I would welcome a bridge upgrade with open arms is the convertible, and they're still using the same flawed design.
