should i get a traditional bass or a bass VI?

Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters and basses go here!

Nick, you have just read my mind. My local music shop has one of these and I'm quite tempted :)

Those little Ampeg stacks look great - let me know what you think if you try one out.

I've gigged through the little Ampeg stacks and haven't liked them. Something in the EQ isn't quite right, and they're not very loud.

59 slab board american vintage in sherwood metallic green. it's the one i played before my relic and loved it a lot. think of culling the herd and going down to two great strats and the 339

Sherwood Green is lovely, but two rosewood board strats?

(bearing in mind I'm a terrible enabler, if I'm preaching caution, you should step away from your PIN number).

apart from the glimour exception, maple necked strats feel wrong to me. rosewood on strats, maple on teles. they do have an equally nice 52 black guard in ;)

Think that's a better bet* - two all-but-identical strats would just forever be stealing playing time from each other.

Yeah that's the problem really - they're not very loud. I even tried the 200w one and wasn't impressed-really wanted to like it too. Tonally it didn't even matter if it couldn't be loud enough. I play bass in one band and let the bassist in the other band use my amp for practice and shows so volume was first priority.

But if I was mainly wanting a cool looking, decent small rig for low volume practice and recording that might still be loud enough to rehearse with a 3 piece band with a quiet drummer in a small room, I'd be looking right at these. TBH just because they look so cool. The one feature present on the VR that I wish the CL had is the balanced DI out. If you're also using a sansamp pedal or similar you wouldn't need one of those live anyway I guess.

If you do think you might end up gigging there are far better things out there in that general price range- For example Fender has a new line of Rumble Bass amps that are very lightweight and much more powerful. They make a 200w 1x15 combo for $400, and in that class Fender watts seem to be louder than Ampeg watts.

But that still don't look as cool as the Ampeg

You could also buy an awful lot of Trace Elliot for that money. It'd be big, loud but pretty much unmovable.

I just really love the green and black carpet on them if I'm honest.

Dude, did you find a suitcase of money behind an old fireplace or something? You're a weapon of mass consumption at the mo.

I'm so all for buying loads of nice stuff, but rather than get another (expensive strat), you should go and have an exotic and exciting holiday.

i sold a kidney, lung and testicle ;)

i'm actually taking my baja and classic player in to be properly sorted out and set up so i can use them again. baja has been in it's case on punishment for letting me down at two gigs now and the classic player i want to be setup more like my new strat.

and might sort out a bass amp for my VM jazz.
