Straying further from the path of enlightenment - 1976 Greco

Post by MattK »

We all know it, everyone goes Tele if they become old enough. Some of you may have seen my 1983 Squier Japan Tele Custom. I love it deeply and it's a lifetime keeper. But I wondered - were all the Fujigen Teles that good?
Now I am 2 for 2:
October 1976 Greco Spacey Sounds Tele Thinline copy. Maple neck, sen body. Excellent condition, neck is divine like the Squier, pickups sound quite amazing (like a Jazzmaster in the middle position) and although I need to shim it to get the action where I want it, I'm in love.

Pickups are interesting - they're not like the Tele Custom's humbucker, although they look the same on the front they are different on the back. And they sure sound different. And oddly, a PAT PEND stamp on them.

Yeah so this one's a keeper too.

Never seen one of those before, that's lovely! Are the WRHBs full size?

Thanks guys! The WRHBs are full size - I am told they are early Maxon copies. I'm looking forward to finding out more. The middle position is spookily like the sound of a Jazzmaster neck pickup.

For some reason I really like the diamond shaped tuners on this. Never seen that before.

They are the same as my 1977 Super Sounds - and slot ended, thank goodness. I think the Ibanez tuners with the star on the back are the same kind as well.
