TC flashback/alter ego onwers, question
just want to pick your brains on theses pedals. i love the sound of the presets on the alter ego, but the price is a lot more than a standard flashback delay. can you download the alter ego presets as tone prints to load on a flashback? or are they hard programmed into an alter ego?

The Alter Ego presets are not available for the Flashback.
Anywhere I've seen the Alter Ego for sale they've been the same price as the Flashback, or even $10 cheaper. Where are you seeing it more expensive?
I've owned the Alter Ego, and loved it; I sold it (to a bandmate) to buy an Alter Ego x4, 'cause I wanted to quickly switch between delays without adjusting knobs. I almost exclusively used the EchoRec and DMM settings on the AE, they were great. The other settings that were also on the Flashback were good, but I preferred the AE proprietary settings. The AEx4 is also pretty sweet, though, honestly, I think the ER and DMM settings on the single pedal are better than the ones on the x4.
The toneprints for the Flashback all work with the Alter Ego too.

i'd quite like the original yellow one, like yourself the ER and DMM settings are the one i'm after. i think the ep-3 is available as a flashback preset. loving my HOF mini and would like to get a TC delay as well.

did you have the alter 4x or the standard? i'm still toying with a deluxe reverb as well.benecol wrote:Ankhanu's spot on - you can't get the AE presets for the Flashback; that said, I'd be very surprised if there was any difference between single pedal and x4 presets - it's all the same emulation. I loved my old X4 - dew it Rob.

slightly off topic from you original question but I had an alter ego.
Its a good pedal if not a little clinical/cold sounding at times. I found with all those presets I always used the deluxe memory man setting.
I guess my point is unless you are looking to have a multitude of different delays to use I personally wouldn't buy one.
If you are after lots of delays at a price I really recommend the Vox delaylab

The ER settings are different to my ears between the single and x4, though they're the same emulation (plus there's a second ER based off of Andy's unit on the x4). The DMM is a single setting on the AE, but the AEx4 has two presets, one emulating the chorus and the other emulating the vibrato settings of the DMM; I prefer the chorus, and that's most similar to the AE DMM setting.
Though the singles and x4s are similar, their circuits are different, and they use different Toneprint libraries. I've tried installing single pedal prints on the x4; it's a no-go.
If you go with TC, definitely get the Toneprint Editor apps, they'll let you make/tweak your own prints. Unfortunately, they're designed for the Flashback settings and don't offer the Alter Ego presets to work off of/modify, which means to get their sounds will take some experimenting and planning.

Yeah I've been using the editors apps a fair bit. Only thing I can't get to work is the beaming of sounds to the device. I seem to have to use the computer method to do it. Even after firmware updates.

Odd. I think I've only used beaming.

I was comparing the Alter Ego X4 and the more compact V2 version just the other day. I fired this computer up and had a tab open to the V2 on musiciansfriend.com (where it was $169), and when I fired the browser back up it of course reloaded the page and I couldn't believe it -- $69!

It's backordered, but I immediately ordered it. Despite my complete lack of posting lately I was going to come here to make a thread and share the news, but I figured bumping this would be of more interest to those watching.
If you're on the fence (and in their reasonable shipping radius), this is a no-brainer.
