Le sigh... as an American living abroad (on an island nation with hefty import taxes), I perhaps feel your pain more than anyone else here. While guitar browsing online, I constantly find myself muttering, how much is that going to cost in total?! But I could get it for xx less at home!!
I have to keep reminding myself that I am, in fact, very far from home.
My only consolation is that Taiwan's importation laws are somewhat lax. I have received guitar parts from abroad through the mail duty free. Rumor has it that if a forumite were to send me a guitar "neck off" and marked as guitar parts, the package might slip through customs untaxed. However, forget about an assembled guitar shipped from a reseller or proper eBayer. I'll be paying through the nose. Worse yet, sometimes large packages here are held at customs for no apparent reason for weeks on end...
