Snake oil

Post by NickS »

Another pile of bullshit, this time from AudioQuest
http://www.audioquest.com/ethernet/diamond
Cat 7 Ethernet cables for digital audio that have, among other things, directionality. As an electronic engineer and network engineer I would just like to say why would anyone fall for this *fuuuuuuu* crap?
DIRECTIONALITY: All audio cables are directional. The correct direction is determined by listening to every batch of metal conductors used in every AudioQuest audio cable. Arrows are clearly marked on the connectors to ensure superior sound quality. For best results have the arrow pointing in the direction of the flow of music. For example, NAS to Router, Router to Network Player.
But it's NOT an audio cable, it's a digital network cable.
SOLID 100% PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER (PSS) CONDUCTORS: Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extreme-purity silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion
There is no clarity and dynamic contrast in a bit stream.

etc. etc.

Must be a case of "I they're stupid enough to buy it, then I'll be stupid enough to make it" :)

This reminds me of why Wat Hi Fi? is my new fave Tumblr. e.g.,
"The company that introduced the $1,200 Walkman at CES last month is now preparing to release its perfect companion: a 64GB microSD card engineered for better sound quality."

Sony’s new $155 64GB "audiophile-grade" SD card.
*lolwut*

lolz at the EEVblog rant.

If you're going to make an audiophile gizmo, why on earth would you use Android OS. Android's audio quality sucks.
