So today a big box of joy was delivered from the awesome NickD. I bought/traded for his Duo/MMaster parts. I need to buy a couple of bits and bobs to fully Duo it up so in the meantime I couldn't resist wiring it up and have decided to rock it as a Musicmaster II. The other body will be refinished at some point and be built up into another guitar (with the spare parts I have at home all I really need is a neck to make another Duosonic). Say what you want about CBS but the 79 pickup in this is GREAT!
Anyhoo here's the fruits of this afternoons labour (sorry about the low light camera pic):
I really missed having a Musicmaster. Props to Nick for these great parts. The neck is bloody fantastic. The whole thing hardly needed any setting up when I rebuilt it.
Glad it all arrived safely. You are right, the neck is great (I had it on a VM jag for a while too and it was great on there), and that 79 strat pickup sounds really good too - it was the neck pickup when it had 2 pickups.
As I've said previously I'm on the neck pickup 99% of the time, and I reckon if I had this set up as a Duo the bridge wouldn't be getting any time whatsoever as the neck pickup sounds so good. It has a pretty sweet tome but still sounds really ballsy. Fender at their best right there.

Also, those late 70s pickups are the business. My MM was a stock 76 and the pickup sang through my old Fender amps.
Believe I bought that from you, the pickup was indeed great. A shame my fat fingers couldn't deal with the neck, I sold it on to Dasbeef on this board.
Since this thread began, I've been looking for CBS-era MM/Duo/Stang pickups on eBay. Some of the prices are ungodly! Thomas, you got yourself a great deal.
Yeah I've been looking at necks, I'd be cheaper waiting on a deal for a whole guitar on eBay. You can still get a 70s MM for about £350-400 all stock. You just have to be quick to snag them.

Necks turn up on occasion for between £100 and 200, but not all that often. I'd keep an eye out for one in the US as well - they are reasonably cheap to ship so even with duty can be a decent deal.
